Introduction Post

To let everyone know- this is my new site. I’ve been writing a lot of these things in other places, but I finally purchased a domain and decided to host it all myself (or pay someone to host it…). Welcome to my site.

This post is stolen from my “Who Am I?” section- to help you all get to know me a little better. Wow, I just realized that I’m already referencing my own site… nice- way to be immediately self-referential. . . anyway- read on for some fun.

So here’s how to figure out if you’ll enjoy reading my future postings- do you find the following ten thoughts interesting? It doesn’t matter if you agree, just if you might want to read more about the topics. Here we go:

  1. Facebook’s $15B valuation is too high by about 600% (and that’s being generous)
  2. I’ve never owned an iPod, nor do I plan on it - plus the iPhone is a cool “Toy”
  3. If I were to create a supply/demand chart for 2007 Web Startups, I’d need a second sheet of paper to reach the top of of the “supply” section
  4. There are three computers in my apartment: one mac, one running XP, one running Kubuntu; I’ve reformatted one of them over 14 times. Only 8 of the times were out of necessity
  5. I usually reflash my current Windows Mobile device every other month, never has it been “necessary” (currently runs a European build of wm6… waiting for a WM6.1 rom to show up somewhere)
  6. I think MySpace is the best way to meet someone… mainly Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC
  7. I don’t think the Palm Foleo was as big a flop is everyone has claimed
  8. I’m well aware of the Web 2.0 bubble theory… let’s just keep pretending it’s not real
  9. I think the term “Web 2.0″ is way over used
  10. I will never give in to using emoticons

What do you think about all this? You hooked yet? Want to read more? Check back soon- hopefully I’ll have my act together.

So I found your opening top 10 topics quite interesting and I thought it would be appropratie to post with some of my comments. Let’s answer just like you posted.

    1. I disagree here (yes I have the new user bias), but 600%? I believe that $15 billion is certainly high, but not that high. We are the first generation of users and look how many there are. It’s a gold mine.

    2. I do own an iPod, but hope to be making the switch to Zune 2.0 this Christmas, which I am very excited about. The iPhone is certainly a “toy”. Best used by 13 year-old girls.

    3. I think you creating this site backs that statement up (not that it isn’t cool or anything).

    4. I’ve got two (not including my Kaiser, which is basically a computer). My most recent was purchased earlier this year and it’s awesome to say the least. Although, it’s a computer so in a couple months, it’s nVidia SLI running 8600 GT’s, 2.4 core 2 duo, 2 GB RAM with heat spreader will be outdated.

    5. You (Zach) introduced me to the world of WinMo and I’m loving it. Purchased the Kaiser from AT&T two months ago so no need to reflash yet, although I’m waiting for 6.1 as well. They are so much fun to play with.

    6. Agreed.

    7. Don’t know enough about it to comment.

    8. Interesting topic of conversation here - you never know what’s gonna happen, although I tend to think this bubble won’t pop.

    9. Agreed again, I like the “a web 1.99 site” title.

    10. I did, when I first started using AIM in high school. I don’t use them as much anymore, but it is difficult to convey emotion over the internet and I feel emotion in speaking is very important. So I’m not against them :-).

I enjoyed these first 10 topics of discussion. Also, your bullets about what will be discussed on this site were interesting. I understand it is technology based, but if you’re gonna have video games on there, you might want to consider other forms of media reviews (music, book, movie). Those are always fun to discuss.

    ok - that’s it.

    Hey Zach,

Interesting stuff. As I read your 10 questions I was wondering who you want to 1) attrack to the site but also who do you want to 2) “dialogue” with? I’m so intrigued by this tech world but interacting with it can be intimidating. I have to tell you that your 10 questions don’t increase my comfort level! So, for the time being I will be more of a voyeur of your site. But nice job. Very cool

Tom! I must say that I’m proud to have you visit my site (especially as the 3rd total visitor)- I hope you enjoy the reads.

    As for your questions.
    1) I’d like to have anyone read my site who enjoys my writing. I’ll be talking about pretty geeky things, but my goal is to keep it as interesting as possible- enabling a fun read for anyone who finds my site.

    2) I’m hoping to start a conversation/debate/discussion with anyone- regardless of technical background.

I think the new wave of the social internet is a lot of fun but really pretty strange. It’s constantly evolving, which makes it more enjoyable to discuss regularly. My job is to understand it, break it down, and explain the social web to people who otherwise wouldn’t really be involved in it.

So I guess I’m looking to talk to anyone about this, experts or not. I’ll try to keep this site readable for everyone of my (currently 3) readers.

If you’re more comfortable being a voyeur for a while- that’s fine, I’ll try to keep my posts interesting either way. And if you want to keep commenting- I’ll gladly engage in a dialogue any time! That’s what I’m here for.

    Zach
